Why Choose Us? - Frequently Asked Questions
Most anglers are soon confused by the sheer abundance of outfitters
within the Amazon to choose from. There are quality outfitters throughout
the Amazon and all have something a little different to offer an angler.
We would suggest that you ask prospective outfitters a few of the following
questions before booking:
1. What river will I be fishing? This is a critical consideration.
It is hard to imagine selling a trip without offering a particular
river but some outfitters will not tell you where you will be fishing.
This is not due to secrecy. It is due to the fact that they operate
camps which they can move in a day and that they truly do not know
where they will be fishing the following season.
The problem
is this: if you are after huge fish (over 24 pounds) you will want
to fish blackwater, if you are a flyfishermen you will want
to fish clear water. So if they change rivers you may end up in entirely
the wrong area for your fishing interest or you may end up on a river
that the outfitter has not even explored.
2. What
is your high water policy? This is another critical consideration.
Make sure your outfitter will rain check you if the river is flooded.
This is the only responsible policy. When the water is in the jungle,
you will not have a good fishing trip.
3. How
much of the river do you fish? On the Agua Boa we have a lodge and
two houseboats that act as out camps. This allows clients to fish
the entire river without a sacrifice in comfort. Our clients fish different
areas of the river every week without having to sleep in a tent or
cramped boat. After all its vacation, you should be comfortable.
4. What is your camp capacity? This is critical. Imagine trying to
sleep on a boat or in a camp that has no privacy with 14-50 other bass
fishermen. At the Agua Boa we run 10 anglers a week.
5. Is
it possible to sight fish? If you are a fly fisherman, sight fishing
is what makes the peacock experience- -blind casting
a 10 weight with
a sinking line in a 500 acre lagoon does not. Focus on clear water
and good numbers of fish. As a general rule, fly fishermen and bait
casters don’t seem to mix well. So if you are a fly fisherman,
focus on a flyfishing lodge.
