The
Fishing - Peacock
bass on the Paca reach weights of up to 22 pounds. There are
three species of peacocks on the Paca, the Temensis, Spotted
and the Butterfly. Butterfly peacocks average 2-6 pounds and
are the most prolific of the bass. They provide good action
between the larger Temensis and Spotted peacocks. Temensis
and Spotted peacocks run large on average. They also typically
run is schools like stripers. It is hard to imagine anything
more spectacular than sightfishing to a school of 10-22 pound
green and black fish ambushing bait. On the Paca River, the
water is so clear you can see the fish from a hundred yards
away. It is truly a spectacular flyfishing experience. It will
remind experienced anglers more of Florida flatsfishing than
what one would expect of the Amazon.
Although
the Peacock Bass are the great attraction of the Paca, there are
many other species of large and exciting sport fish to be tackled.
These species include arowana, traira, pacu, matrincha and tackle
wrenching catfish and pirarucu that often reach 100 plus pounds.
