The
Area - The Paca is located 150 miles
Northwest of Manaus in an area only accessible by private
charter. The
Paca river is probably Brazil’s newest and most exclusive
flyfishing destination for peacock bass. It is a resource
that is still largely unexplored. The houseboat operation
on the
Paca was setup after an aerial survey of the river system
by Dr. Jan Wilt and Jeff Vermillion. In 2003, we operated
several
exploratory trips on the Paca to determine its potential.
It is the twin to Agua Boa River. The water is clear on a
white
sand bottom and is filled with excellent wade fishing opportunities.
We have high expectations for the operations there and are
planning to build a lodge in the fall of 2005. 2004 will
be our first full season of operations on the Paca. We are
pleased
to announce that we have the entire river leased. During
your week of fishing you will enjoy true wilderness without
any
competition. We are the only operation from the headwaters
to the mouth of the river.
The Paca
is also an incredibly scenic river. It is surrounded by high gallery
forest, savannah and varzea flood forest. This combination of ecosystems
and the remote nature of the river make the Paca an excellent destination
to see game. It is not at all unusual to see jaguars, black caimen
and giant Amazon river otters on the Paca. These species are rarely
seen elsewhere in the Amazon. it is a spectacular place to fish and
experience the Amazon.
